MOBILITY and FINANCE

Mobility

  • Staff Exchange (SE) project supports exchange of researchers

  • Mobility is EU to Third Country and Third Country to EU

  • No mobility from EU to EU or Third Country to Third Country

  • Exchanged researchers can be: PhD students, postdocs, computer staff, academic staff

  • Exchanges have to last for a minimum of one month before any funding is released from the project

  • After one month payment is pro rata

  • An exchange can be undertaken in a number of visits, which, when added together most last for a minimum of one month

  • Maximum duration of exchanges for individual over 48 months: 12 months

SPONSORING

Worked Example

  • Sergio Contreras (DIPC)) visits Catolica for 2 months

  • His flight, accommodation and food cost 3750 euro

  • Sergio receives a payment from the project of 2x2300 = 4600 euro

  • Research, Training and Networking Costs of 2x1105 = 2210 euro are generated (these would normally go to Catolica)

  • The Solidarity Fund receives 2x185 euro

  • Management costs of 2x500 euro can be split between DIPC and 2x500 euro goes to the Network Coordinators.

Financial Regime

  • Payments are triggered once an exchange exceeds a duration of one month - so no payment if you are not staying for at least one month

  • Staff member/researcher costs:

    • 2300 euro per full month – paid after visit, need to provide evidence of expenditure  (travel, transport, visa costs, accommodation, subsistence) then any balance to be paid to staff member

    • researcher is paid this amount, regardless of the actual costs

  • Research, training and networking costs:

    • 1105 euro per full month control of this money is with the “host” 185 euro to “solidarity fund”, as per Consortium Agreement

  • Management costs:

    • 500 euro to host

    • 500 euro to Network Coordinators, as per Consortium Agreement

  • Be careful with research and management costs because these are based on the number of secondment months that actually take place.
If the mobility targets are not reached, we do not have access to the full project budget.

Research, training and networking costs

  • This money is released by the exchange of researchers

  • This money goes to the node hosting the visit

  • There is no restriction on EU/Third Country mobility for this money

  • This could be used to fund short visits e.g. staff attending a workshop

  • This could be used to put on workshops, buy equipment etc.

  • To use all this money we need to hit the requested number of researcher exchanges.

  • This could also be used to support exchanges involving Mexico, China and Brazil, alongside the solidarity fund.
